URBAN TWEET DAY - 09.01.2010

107 posts from many different people (mostly in a snowy UK) for the first URBAN TWEET DAY.. You can see all of these on our URBAN TWEET DAY tracker above.

Taking out a few tweets and drawing it all into a fluid narrative.. here is what the days looked like for those who took part in chronological order.. if you would like to play with these words to come up with a story that is structured a different way see this… Continue

URBAN EARTH: MASH

A frame from URBAN EARTH: MANCHESTER that features in the first URBAN EARTH: MASH

Most URBAN EARTH films have no music. Music definitely changes feelings towards a place may it (the music) be dark, euphoric or chilled - that is why the music is left out... yes it makes an easier and in many ways 'better' experience to have a good tune to the images as they come towards you, but the films resist the desire and want to conform to… Continue

URBAN EARTH: TYNESIDE

This account of the walk across Tynside was emailed to me by Dick over the weekend. I find it inspirational and actually is what brought about the idea for URBAN EARTH: DAY (twitter). I hope you like it as much as I do. Great work Dick.

Out of the Urban

You may have noticed that Christelle (who found out about Urban Earth from Anna who was on the Mexico City and Guadalajara walks) is organising a walk across Thies in Senegal. If you're in the area why not pop along. A few have already agreed to take part. The following day on the 24th we will be walking across Newcastle in the NE of England too.

On another note check out these two films "Rural Earth" by Noel Jenkins and "Coastal Earth" by Richard Allaway. Fun… Continue

What would being an admin involve?

Ok slightly mad idea but heh what's new? I propose a group or me to. Walk from Dartford crossing insouth side of river to join Thames Path at Thames barrier and on into London - I foresee an early start needed.

Hi Daniel, like Hilary I'm struggling to decide which group. You and I did discuss walking together, but I'm also aware that we should still be starting new groups. Perhaps I could start an new group and then move if it gets enough people. I'm also a tad nervous about starting a group and then walking alone, though I suppose that would have its own charm too.

Thanks for the welcome Daniel. It's a fantastic idea and there's a bunch of us coming along for the day - the question is which route - decisions, decisions...  see you in Fleet St the evening of the 10th!

No doubt.

You should stretch your legs and come on the West Midlands walk... it will be an interesting one.

Ok cool - I'll give it a shot! No doubt there will be a reminder nearer the time so I don't forget :-)

Hey Dan!

Actually it was the Urban Tweet Day that caught my eye - although I'm not entirely sure what it will involve?

I'm happy to do some of the photography for this one - if we're going for every 8 paces then i'd rather not be behind the camera for the whole route - as i like to look up/down/left/right as well as straight ahead - but i'll willingly take it on for some of the route if others would like to do sections too!
