urban adventures to (re)present our habitat
Hello! And welcome to Group 22 for the Urban Story Degrees of London exploration. We'll be walking from Slade Green (taken from this map) in south-east London to Ye Olde Cock Tavern on Fleet Street. Slade Green is on the railway line out of London Bridge station.
This group will be used to decide when and where we're going to meet, our route, and ideas about what we're going to record during the day.

I think that some sort of sustenance will be needed before we set off, so let's start the day with a bacon buttie or similar at the Forest Cafe, Forest Road, Slade Green (opposite the railway station) at 9am, and then set off from there at 9.45 - 10-ish.
Here's a map of the route.
This group does not have any discussions yet.

Comment by Emma Dwyer on March 7, 2012 at 19:59 Hi Andy (and Sef)
I'll take another look at the route this evening - I now have OS 1:25,000 maps for the route. Nearest bridge probably Blackfriars? I'll be bringing along a camera too. I hope there's a laptop at the venue that we can download things on to - mine's not behaving itself, so I won't bring it with me.

Comment by Emma Dwyer on March 5, 2012 at 23:51 I have had a stab at drawing a route - what do you think?
There are some other options - we could cross the river on the Woolwich ferry and mostly walk through the north, or walk through the tunnel at Greenwich and then up through the Isle of Dogs before turning left and heading into the city. Or we could cheat, and take the East London Line one stop from Rotherhithe to Wapping.

I've created a map: http://g.co/maps/vw3sa where I have drawn a straight line between Slade Green station and Ye Olde Cock Tavern. The line is 13.4 miles long, and I think if we were to walk along the Thames Path all the way, it would end up being closer to 20 - which including stopping to look at things, and getting lost, would mean we would get to the pub long after 6pm. But there is definitely scope for encountering the river.
Maybe we could take a look at the map, see what things of interest there are that we would like to look at, and take it from there? We'll have to think about how, and where, we cross the river too.
Comment by Emma Dwyer on February 27, 2012 at 21:37 Hi Andy, it's great to have you on the team! We can definitely all meet up at the cafe.
I hadn't thought too much about what we're going to do on the day, so thanks for bringing this up. I love the Thames Path, although I worry that the loops in the river might make for a longer than expected walk - but I will have a look at what the distance will be. There would definitely be plenty to look at, both on land, and on the foreshore, depending on the tide. And riverside pubs, if they're your sort of thing (they are mine).
Sefryn - any thoughts?
